Accenture Match Play 2011 Brackets Formed

Accenture Match Play 2011 Brackets Formed - The Accenture Match Play 2011 tournament is like March Madness. In fact, the Accenture Match Play 2011 bracket is still a field of 64, and doesn't need to expand to 68. What's more, upsets are even more common
in this tournament than they are in the NCAA, as the high seeds don't usually make it to the end. Therefore, although Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are No. 1 seeds, few expect them to make up the Final Four. In fact, the Accenture Match Play 2011 bracket may see them all gone before the weekend.

The tournament doesn't start until Wednesday, but the bracket was officially set yesterday. Lee Westwood leads the Bobby Jones section, with Martin Kaymer the top seed in the Gary Player region, Tiger Woods in front of the Sam Snead group, and Phil Mickelson favored in the Ben Hogan bracket. But the Accenture Match Play 2011 pairings probably don't benefit the top seeds that much. Westwood faces Henrik Stenson first, and is in a regional with Steve Stricker, Retief Goosen and Luke Donald. Kaymer has Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Jim Fuyrk and Hunter Mahan in his bracket as well. For Woods, he starts off against Thomas Bjorn, with either Geoff Ogilvy or Padraig Harrington waiting next. With Ernie Els, Dustin Johnson, Paul Casey and Bubba Watson in his section as well, Woods may actually be an underdog to get out of his side if the bracket.

The Accenture Match Play 2011 schedule is capped off with Mickelson, Graeme McDowell, Matt Kuchar and Ian Poulter heading the Ben Hogan regional. However, it might be wiser to look at the smaller names, and lower seeds, as potential winners in these brackets. Stenson is a 16'th seed, yet he won this tournament in 2007. Ian Poulter won it all as a three seed last year, and is a three seed again in the Hogan regional. Woods has won this event three times, but that hasn't been a prerequisite for success nowadays.
If the Accenture Match Play 2011 tournament has one top seed make it to the round of 16, it might actually be a surprise. Stricker lost in the first round as a No. 1, and no other top seed made it past the second. Therefore, Westwood, Kaymer, Woods and Mickelson are greater long shots than many other lower ranked players.
